Cry For Me O Africa

Cry For Me O Africa
Racism is bad and it's even worst if it is practiced in India which has the first hand experience of sufferings of such abuse. There are incidents of racial attacks in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi. Recently Masunda Kitada Oliver, an African post-graduate student of Congolese origin was beaten to death in Delhi last Friday night. Samuel Panyin Yalley, High Commissioner of Ghana to India penned a poem for him on Africa Day. I read it today in The Indian Express but got only first and last verse to share here. It has that pain which one feels for getting distinguished for his color, I have also wrote few lines inspired by it.

first verse :
“Hear My Cry Oh! Africa Deep in an unknown chilled cage I lie Frozen with ice of pain and stained by My hot African blood suddenly gone cold Someone must tell me…what did I do wrong?”
last verse:
"Never let the blood I shed be in vain.  Never let my name and pain be forgotten;  in this strange land of incredible magic and charm…

Heat Wave

Image
Heat Wave In spite of controlling almost all things in the world there are something we can't control like the climate. It is also true that we have altered it for the worse but only almighty can change the things again. It's a prayer to call him to give us some relief from the heat waves in this part of the world.(North India)

You can fry an omelette such is the intensity of heat wave,  O god from this furnace like heat you can only save.
The lands have became barren, taps are running dry, farmers committing suicide at least hear their family's cry,
Monsoon is the only relief from this scorching summer heat, bring some early round of rains to beat that heat.
Ac's, coolers are luxuries, where will the poor go? some cool waves of air they enjoy as fall of snow.
Listen to them the deprived, the sick, children and the poor, In your land give them respite with some monsoon shower.

Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna

सरफ़रोशी की तमन्ना (Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna) - The Desire to Sacrifice - Bismil Azimabadi/Ram Prasad BismilSarfaroshi Ki Tamanna Ab Hamare Dil Mein Hai, Dekhna Hai Zor Kitna Baazu - e - Qatil Mein Hai.
When I first heard this line while watching Shaheed (1965) starring Manoj Kimar way back in the 90's as a kid little did I know that such revolutionary poem which have the power to instill patriotism and courage to do something for your country will not fit in some body's political ideology. Rajasthan BJP government has dropped it from class VII textbook along with references to Jawaharlal Nehru and another poem 'Jhansi Ki Rani' by Subhadra Kumari Chauhan. I don't understand what they are trying to prove by defaming/omitting/changing/manipulating historical facts? You can't eliminate the contributions of these great freedom fighters by eliminating them from textbooks. Here I am presenting this ghazal of Bismil Azimabadi which made famous by contributions from revo…

Shayari # 12 : Faiz Ahmad Faiz

Image
शायरी # 12 (Couplets) - Faiz Ahmad Faiz  Faiz Ahmad Faiz is known for his revolutionary and love ghazals. Both shers(couplets)translated here are for hope. Hope that something better will come after sorrows, hope that someone you are longing for will come sooner or later. I hope you will like his couplets and my efforts at translation.

दिल न-उम्मीद तो नहीं नाकाम ही तो है, लम्बी है ग़म की शाम मगर शाम ही तो है।  Dil Na-Ummeed To Nahin Nakam Hi To Hai, Lambi Hai Gham Ki Shaam Magar Shaam Hi To Hai.
Heart is only disappointed, it has not failed,  Evening of sorrow is longer but it's only an evening.

वो आ रहे हैं, वो आते हैं, आ रहें होंगे, शब-ए-फ़िराक ये कह कर गुज़ार दी हमने।  Wo Aa Rahein Hain, Wo Aate Hain, Aa Rahein Honge, Shab-e-Firaq Ye Keh Kar Guzar Di Humne.
She is coming, she comes, she will come, Night of separation passed by saying this.
