तुम्हारे ख़त में नया इक सलाम किस का था,
न था रकीब तो आख़िर वो नाम किस का था। Tumhare Khat Mein Naya Ik Salaam Kis Ka Tha, Na Tha Raqeeb To Aakhir Wo Naam Kis Ka Tha.
Whose new greeting was there in your letter?
Whose name it was if it was not of my challenger?
वो क़त्ल करके मुझे हर किसी से पूछते हैं,
ये काम किसने किया है ये काम किस का था। Wo Katl Karke Mujhe Har Kisi Se Poochte Hain, Ye Kaam Kisne Kiya Hai, Ye Kaam Kiska Tha.
She asks everyone after committing my murder,
who did this work, who was behind this slaughter?
वफ़ा करेंगे, निभाएंगे, बात मानेंगे,
तुम्हे भी याद है कुछ ये कलाम किस का था। Wafa Karenge, Nibhaenge, Baat Manenge, Tumhe Bhi Yaad Hai Kuch Ye Kalaam Kis Ka Tha.
I will be loyal,will abide,will obey each order,
whose saying was that do you remember?
रहा न दिल में वो बेदर्द और दर्द रहा,
मुक़ीम कौन हुआ है मक़ाम किस का था। Raha Na Dil Mein Wo Bedard Aur Dard Raha, Mukeem Kaun Hua Hai Makaam Kis Ka Tha.
Pain stayed but not the unrelenting pain giver,
Who has inhabited? Who should be the dweller.
न पूछ-गछ थी किसी की वहां न आओ भगत,
तुम्हारी बज़्म में कल एहतिमाम किस का था। Na Pooch-Gach Thi Kisi Ki Wahan Na Aao Bhagat, Tumhari Bazm Mein Kal Ehtimam Kis Ka Tha.
No one was greeted there,anybody's concern was neither,
Whose welcome was there last night in your get-together?
तमाम बज़्म जिसे सुन के रह गई मुश्ताक़,
कहो वो तज़्किरा-ऐ-न-तमाम किस का था। Tamam Bazm Jise Sun Ke Rah Gai Mushtaq, Kaho Wo Tazkira-e-Na-Tamam Kis Ka Tha.
What has left the whole gathering eager?
Whose incomplete description it was dear?
हमारे ख़त के तो पुर्ज़े किए पढ़ा भी नहीं,
सुना जो तूने ब-दिल वो पयाम किस का था। Hamare Khat Ke To Purze Kiye Pada Bhi Nahin, Suna Jo Tune Ba-Dil Wo Payam Kis Ka Tha.
It wasn't even read, to pieces you shred my letter,
whose message was it which you heard better?
उठाई क्यों न क़यामत अदू के कूचे में,
लिहाज़ आप को वक़्त-ऐ-ख़िराम किस का था। Uthai Kyun Na Kayamat Adu Ke Kuche Mein, Lihaz Aap Ko Waqt-e-Khiram Kis Ka Tha.
Why in my rival's street you didn't raise voice like a fighter?
Whom you were respecting at that moment of thunder?
गुज़र गया वो ज़माना कहूँ तो किस से कहूँ,
ख़्याल दिल को मेरे सुबह-ओ-शाम किस का था। Guzar Gaya Wo Zamana Kahun To Kis Se Kahun, Khyal Dil Ko Mere Subah-o-Shaam Kis Ka Tha.
Whom to speak about those gone days and passed year,
Days and night whom I used to dream and remember?
हमें तो हज़रत-ऐ-वाइज़ की ज़िद ने पिलवाई,
यहाँ इरादा-ऐ-शुर्ब-ऐ-मुदाम किस का था। Hamein To Hazrat-e-Vaiz Ki Zid Ne Pilwai, Yahan Irada-e-Shurb-e-Mudam Kis Ka Tha.
I drank on insistence of my master preacher,
Here whose idea was this to always drink together?
अगरचे देखने वाले तिरे हज़ारों थे,
तबाह हाल बहुत ज़ेर-ए-बाम किस का था। Agarche Dekhne Wale Tire Hazaron The, Tabah Haal Bahut Zer-e-Baam Kis Ka Tha.
Though thousands were present to see you there,
Who was the most devastated below the roof there?
वो कौन था कि तुम्हे जिसने बेवफ़ा जाना,
ख़्याल-ए-ख़ाम ये सौदा-ए-ख़ाम किस का था। Wo Kaun Tha Ki Tunhe Jisne Bewafa Jana, Khyal-e-Khaam Ye Sauda-e-Khaam Kis Ka Tha.
Who was it who called you faithless and unfair,
of this mindless and naive belief who was the thought bearer?
इन्हीं सिफत से होता है आदमी मशहूर,
जो लुत्फ़ आम वो करते ये नाम किस का था। Inhin Sifat Se Hota Hai Aadmi Mashhoor, Jo Lutf Aam Wo Karte Ye Naam Kis ka Tha.

Where would be the acclaim if all were bestowed with this favor?
हर एक से कहते हैं क्या 'दाग़' बेवफ़ा निकला,
ये पूछे उनसे कोई वो ग़ुलाम किस का था। Har Ek Se Kehte Hain Kya 'Dagh' Bewafa Nikla, Ye Pooche Unse Koi Wo Ghulam Kis Ka Tha.
How disloyal was 'Dagh' she said to all near and dear,
'whose slave was he then?' Someone should ask her.
