Let Them Be Children

Let Them Be Children

14th November is celebrated as Children's Day in India, it is the birthday of India's first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru who was very fond of children. Children are free spirited and we must let them as they are and dream for themselves, Happy Children's Day

Don't stop , don't interrupt
let their dreams fly,
let them touch the sky,
let them have fun,let them learn
let them be children.

Don't pressurize, don't criticize
let them choose their way,
bookish knowledge do stay,
but there are books beyond books,
which change how we looks
and how things we churn,
let them be children.

Don't judge,don't grudge
let their innocence prevail,
let them come out of shell,
let aim them high,let dream them high,
because dreams make future turn
let them be children.

This poem is linked to Poetry Jam ( dream ) and Five Sentence Fiction ( Flight)

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening

Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening - Robert Frost

Universal Children's Day takes place annually on November 20 by United Nations recommandation. But in India it is celebrated on November 14 which is the birthday of India's first prime minister Jawaharlal Nehru
who was very fond of children,they also loved him and called him as Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru). On this occassion I am sharing one of his favorite poem written by Robert Frost. Jawaharlal Nehru had copied the last stanza of the poem in his own hand,sometimes before his death and always kept it by his side.

Whose woods these are I think I know,
His house is in the village though,
He will not see me stopping here,
To watch his woods fill up with snow.

My little horse must think it queer,
To stop without a farmhouse near,
Between the woods and frozen lake,
The darkest evening of the year.

He gives his harness bell a shake,
To ask if there is some mistake.
The only other sound's the sweep,
Of easy wind and downy flake.

The woods are lovely,dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

I have penned two stanzas as a tribute to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru continuing the rhythm of above poem:

Since he had promises to keep,
He worked hard, devoid of sleep.
Re-discovered the nation in a new way,
Pacified the poor,never let them weep.

Settled the nation which was astray,
Built a modern India without any delay,
Chacha* of children,the founder of NAM**,
In our memories,always alive he will stay.
