Image
(Chupke Chupke Raat Din)  Hasrat Mohani who gave us the famous slogan of independence struggle  'Inquilab Zindabad' (Long Live Revolution ) has wrote this ghazal which is also used in 1982 Hindi film Nikaah. This ghazal is like someone remembering the old days of love, togetherness and romance. The poet is recalling things from the past to affirm that he still knew about those happenings thus confirming his evergreen love. I have translated this famous ghazal and one of my longest translation   in hope it reach many more people to cherish. Chupke-Chupke Raat Din Aansu Bahana Yaad Hai, Hum Ko Ab Tak Aashiqui Ka Wo Zamana Yaad Hai. To shed tears day & night silently, I remember, that period of love even now, I remember. Ba-Hazaran Iztirab Au Sad-Hazaran Ishtiyaq, T...

Tumhare Khat Mein Naya Ik Salam Kis Ka Tha

Tumhare Khat Mein Naya Ik Salam Kiska Tha (Whose New Greetings Were There In Your Letter) - Dagh Dehelvi Dagh Dehelvi is showing his jealousy in this ghazal about her beloved's attention shifting to someone else. Her mannerism, behavior and a name in her letter raised his doubts which he has shared in this ghazal. He is almost sure that she is flirting with her enemy and ignoring her thus he is reminding her of his love and her love vows. I have translated this ghazal here and hope you all will enjoy this. For detail interpretation of this  ghazal see : Behind Tumhare Khat Mein Ik Naya Salam. Tumhare Khat Mein Naya Ik Salaam Kis Ka Tha, Na Tha Raqeeb To Aakhir Wo Naam Kis Ka Tha. Whose new greeting was there in your letter? Whose name it was if it was not of my challenger?

( Yesterday it was the full moon night!) - Ibn-e-Insha Those who love Urdu Shayari must have heard or read the first sher of this ghazal. It is famous and have used in various movies also. I discovered today that this was written by the best humorist of Urdu language Ibn-e-Insha. I have posted complete ghazal along with its translation by me. It's in admiration of the poet's beloved and about his one sided love to her. He is comparing her face with that of the full moon on fourteenth day of the month and expressing his love in rest of the ghazal. You can understand it better here . Kal chaudhvi ki raat thi, shab bhar raha charcha tera, kuch ne kaha yeh chand hai, kuch ne kaha chehra tera. You were discussed on yesterday's full moon night, Some said, ' It is moon.' , Some said that it was your face.

Hungama Hai Kyun Barpa ?

हंगामा है क्यूँ बरपा?( Why Is This Chaos?)- Akbar Allahabadi This Ghazal was written by Akbar Allahabadi during the time of Hindi-Muslim conflict. Since he was advocating Hindu-Muslim unity claiming that conflicts were part of Britishers Divide and Rule policy, some Muslim fanatics taunted that he had been given alcohol by the Hindus (Muslims are forbidden to drink alcohol). This Ghazal was his response to those insinuations. Thus this ghazal has a broader sense than about the pleasure of imbibing alcohol. हंगामा है क्यूँ बरपा, थोड़ी सी जो पी ली है डाका तो नहीं डाला, चोरी तो नहीं की है Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa, Thodi Si Jo Pii Lii Hai Daakaa Toh Nahin Daalaa Chori Toh Nahi Kii Hai Why is this chaos growing for my slight drinking, I haven't committed any robbery, nor indulged in stealing. Naa Tajurbakaari Se Vaais Kii Ye Baatein Hai Is Rang Ko Kyaa Jaane Puchho Toh Kabhi Pii H...
