Do Not Stand at My Grave And Weep

Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep-Mary Elizabeth Frye

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there,I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow,
I am the sun on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain,
When you awaken in the morning's hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush,
Of quiet birds in circling flight,
I am the soft starlight at night,
Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there,I did not die.

  1. Beautiful poem, The hindi version does full justice to the original.

  2. In times of great pain some poems can organize grief and give it a shape that you can recognize and make room for. I read this poem years back. No one knows who wrote the poem;a Navajo chief or a Victorian lady poet have been suggested, but wherever it comes from it is clearly a charm against the awful reality of death.
