शायरी # 22 : इश्क़ (Couplet #22 : Love) When love is in the air there is nothing better than to describe it in a sher ( couplet). This sher tells that the ailment and the treatment is same i.e Love. Happy Valentines Day.  आँखों में गिरफ्तार कर मोहताज करता है, ये इश्क़ यूहीं दर्द-ए-दिल का इलाज करता है। - सिफ़र  Aankhon Mein Giraftar Kar Mohtaj Karta Hai, Ye Ishq Yuhin Dard-e-Dil Ka Ilaaj Karta Hai. - Cifar ####### It cripple you by arresting in the eyes, Love thus from pain of heart gives reprieve.

वो दिल ही क्या तिरे मिलने की जो दुआ न करे। Wo Dil Hi Kya Tere Milne Ki Jo Dua Na Kare - Qateel Shifai This is ' Qateel Shifai ' love ghazal where he is praying to die than to live in separation. In all stanzas he is demanding death or destruction or something like that for not getting love. The famous ' Sher ' from this ghazal ' Ye Theek Hai ........Juda Na Kare ' (third stanza) he is saying that no one die in love but even though no one should be separated as he know the pain of it. प्यार की राह चुने। (Pyaar Ki Raah Chune) Season of love starts with valentine week i.e the various days denoted to express your feelings for somebody. Feb 7 is Rose Day, Feb 8 is Propose Day then comes Chocolate Day, Teddy Day, Promise Day, Hug Day, Kiss Day and finally Valentine Day from 9th to 14th February respectively. I believe that love needs no day to express but in the popular culture if we have a dedicated day for it enjoy it fully with your loved one. Here in this Hindi poem there is a conversation between a boy and a girl of expressing their love for each other. They think that the world and the society always remain against those who love so they must unite without thinking about anybody but only about their love. They decided to walk on the path of love leaving hatred aside. I hope you will enjoy this poem. इश्क़ ने  'ग़ालिब' निकम्मा कर दिया। Ishq Ne 'Ghalib' Nikamma Kar Diya. - Mirza Ghalib  This is among the rare Ghalib ghazal based on Sufism or love to God. The last sher (couplet) is a well known one and recited by time and again by many of us but only few of us are aware of this ghazal to which this sher belongs. I also encountered this ghazal only few days back and then decided to post it with translation, I hope you will like my translation and it would help to understand you this ghazal better in which he has compared beloved to God. कुछ इश्क़ किया,कुछ काम किया। - ( Did Some Love, Some Work ) - Faiz Ahmad Faiz This small ghazal by Faiz Ahmad Faiz is like summarizing an entire unfulfilled life where poet feels neither successful in love nor in business. It has some Sufi undertone to it, poet is considering himself as an unsuccessful human being who failed in worldly as well as godly  life and hence his life after death would also remain at unease like the life on earth. He remained empty handed. अश्क आँखों में कब नहीं आता।(When tears don't come in eyes)- Mir Taqi Mir अश्क आँखों में कब नहीं आता, लहू आता है जब नहीं आता। When tears don't come in eyes, When blood comes then it does not. होश जाता नहीं रहा लेकिन, जब वो आता है तब नहीं आता। Consciousness is not going,but, When she comes then it does not. दिल से रूख्सत हुई कोई ख्वाहिश, गिरिया कुछ बे-सबब नहीं आता। A desire has leaved from heart, Friend! without reason it comes not. इश्क का हौसला है शर्त वरना, बात का किस को ढब नहीं आता। Bet is the spirit of love,otherwise, To bring trick in talk,who knows not.  जी में क्या-क्या है अपने ऐ हमदम, हर सुखन ताबा लब नहीं आता। How many things I have in my mind, Each word to lips arrives not.
