I liked the first stanza of this ghazal and hence chose this one of Iqbal Sajid to translate. In this poem poet's frustration is evident in not getting the love from one he loved. So to satisfy his ego he is insulting her beauty and choosing the words hurt her the most. He also displays her truthfulness by mentioning his non-indulgence to any other beauty even when he has that opportunity and in a way he is hurting her by doing this. अपनी अना की आज भी तस्कीन हम ने की,

जी भर के उस के हुस्न की तौहीन हम ने की। 

Apni Ana Ki Aaj Bhi Taskeen Humne Ki,

Ji Bhar Ke Uss Ke Husn Ki Tauheen Humne Ki.

Even today in this way my ego I pacify,

Wholeheartedly her beauty I defy

लहजे की तेज़ धार से ज़ख़्मी किया उसे,

पैवस्त दिल में लफ़्ज़ की संगीन हम ने की। 

 Lehze Ki Tez Dhaar Se Zakhmi Kiya Use,

Paivast Dil Mein Lafz Ki Sangeen Humne Ki.

Hurt her from sharp edge of my accent,

intensity of words in my heart I contain  

लाए ब-रू-ए-कार न हुस्न ओ जमाल को,

मौक़ा था फिर भी रात न रंगीन हम ने की। 

Laye Ba-Ru-Ae-Kar Na Husn-O-Jamaal Ko,

Mauka Tha Phir Bhi Raat Na Rangeen Humne Ki.

Not brought for completion of work an elegant beauty,

Didn't enjoy the night even when I have the opportunity.

जी भर के दिल की मौत पे रोने दिया उसे,

पुर्सा दिया न सब्र की तल्क़ीन हम ने की। 

Ji Bhar Ke Dil Ki Maut Pe Rone Diya Use,

Pursa Diya Na Sabr Ki Talkeen Humne Ki.

Wholeheartedly let her cry over heart's destruction,

Neither give condolence nor I instructed on patience.

दरिया की सैर करने अकेले चले गए,

शाम-ए-शफ़क़ की आप ही तहसीन हम ने की।  

Dariya Ki Sair Karne Akele Chale Gaye,

Shaam-e-Shafaq Ki Aap Hi Tahseen Humne Ki.

Went alone to roam the river lining,

and self praised the redness of evening.
