Ghar Wapsi (Reverse Migration)

(Ghar Wapsi) - Reverse Migration

Once village people migrated to big cities in search of food and work because industrialization created opportunity there and big poor families can't sustain on small lands. Many were those landless labors whose land was grabbed by government for some projects. They all migrated to cities and settled here in spite of  facing many hardships because they were earning more from what they can earn in there native villages.

But the unplanned lockdown amid the fear of community transmission of Covid-19 or Corona virus Pandemic has started Reverse Migration. Many migrant labors become job less/work less after the lockdown was announced. Daily wagers, rickshaw pullers and even those working in ,ills and factories soon started feeling difficult to survive in cities as they were not getting any payment and food. The arrangements made by many state government were not reaching everybody and if reaching they were not satisfactory. We can't even imagine how much they suffer to leave there 'Karm Bhumi' like that but I have tried to put their pain in words through my poem both in English and in Hindi.

Yuhin Koi Ghar Chodkar Nahin Jata,
Ghar Sa Sukoon Jab Nahin Pata,
Zamana Ye Dard Gar Samajh Jata,
Nizam Duniya Ka Na Ulat Jata.

Kaisi Wo Bebasi Rahi Hogi,
Bachchon Ne Bhook Na Sahi Hogi,
Khuda, Sarkaar Sa Na Ho Jata,
Nizam Duniya Ka Na Ulat Jata.

Bachche-Bude Bhi The, Lachaar-Bimaar Bhi,
Nange Paon Sadke Napne Ko Tayyar Sabhi,
Jeena, Marne Se Aasan Agar Nazar Aata,
Nizam Duniya Ka Na Ulat Jata.

English Version:

Nobody leaves home like this,
Comfort when that home not gives,
If that pain could understand world's imagination,
there will be no reverse migration.

How much helpless they would have felt,
when children's hunger they have dealt,
If God wouldn't have government like transformation,
there will be no reverse migration.

there were children-old,helpless and sick,
everyone ready to bare footed walk for weeks,
If life would have been easier than destruction,
there will be no reverse migration.

  1. The world is going through a serious crisis. Some of these migrations are beyond human control. But the government has a duty to make the process as easy or less burdensome as possible. Our governments - central as well as states - seem so unconcerned.

  2. This is called Life which is unpredictable. Nobody knows what will happen in next moment.

Na Muhn Chupa Ke Jiye Hum Na Sar Jhuka Ke Jiye

(Na Muhn Chupa Ki Jiye Hum Na Sar Jhuka Ke Jiye) -  I am sharing here a ' Qita ' written by Sahir Ludhianvi which is recently used in Hindi movie 'Sanju '. A song inspired from it also penned by Sahir for the film ' Humraaz' (1967 ) staring Sunil Dutt in the lead role. Literal meaning of Qata is ‘separated’. Qata stands for a series of couplets in a ghazal having continuity of thought. A ghazal having one or more Qatas is called Qata-Band ghazal . Qatas also have independent existence comprising at least four lines. In a Qata , the second and fourth lines follow the same rhyming scheme. (Qita meaning from Rekhta ). Here I have tried to translate it. Na Muhn Chupa Ke Jiye Hum Na Sar Jhuka Ke Jiye, Sitamgaron Ki Nazar Se Nazar M

Aagah Apni Maut Se Koi Bashar Nahin

( Aagah Apni Maut Se Koi Bashar Nahin) - No One Is Aware Of Their Own Death - Hairat Allahabadi My brother often quote the first sher of this ghazal from a long time. One day I found that it was part of a ghazal written by Hairat Allahabadi so I decided to translate it. In this ghazal the poet is showing his dare devilry by raising points like he don't fear death, he not fearful of others and things like that. He is showing his power to love without any fear. I hope you will like this translation. Aagah Apni Maut Se Koi Bashar Nahin, Saman Sau Baras Ka Pal Ki Khabar Nahin. No one is aware of their own death, things are hundred years old, no news of the moment's strength. Aa Jaen Rob-ae-Ghair Mein Hum Wo Bashar Nahin, Kuch Aap Ki Tarah Hamein Logon Ka Dar Nahin.

Nami Danam Che Manzil Bood

Nami Danam Che Manzil Bood - Amir Khusro Dhoom - 3's famous track 'Kamli' featuring Katrina Kaif uses a Persian word 'Nami Danam' which means " I don't know" . That word was used by famous Sufi Poet Amir Khusro in this poem also. I am translating it into English as well as easy to understand Urdu (In Devnagri script).
