पत्ता पत्ता बूटा बूटा-मीर तकी मीर 

पत्ता-पत्ता बूटा-बूटा हाल हमारा जाने है,

जाने न जाने गुल ही न जाने,बाग़ तो सारा जाने है।
Each leaf and each plant knows my condition(plight)
only rose alone does not know what all the garden knows.

लगने न दे बस हो तो उसके गौहर-ए-गोश के बाले तक,

उस को फ़लक चश्म-ए-मै-ओ-ख़ोर की तितली का तारा जाने है।
What known to even her earrings,her ears are unaware off
even this is known to the pupil of her moon like eyes.(but not to her)

आगे उस मुतक़ब्बर के हम ख़ुदा-ख़ुदा किया करते हैं,

कब मौजूद ख़ुदा को वो मग़रूर ख़ुद-आरा जाने है।
I do enchant to let god be god in front of that arrogant girl,
but she is so proud in self praise that she ignored HIM.

आशिक़ सा तो सादा कोई और न होगा दुनिया में,

जी के ज़िआँ को इश्क़ में उस के अपना वारा जाने है।
No one is as simple as a lover in this world,
who sacrifices his life to be in her love forever.

चारागरी बीमारी-ए-दिल की रस्म-ए-शहर-ए-हुस्न नहीं,

वर्ना दिलबर-ए-नादाँ भी इस दर्द का चारा जाने है।

Ailing heart's treatment is alien to that beauty in town,
else even my foolish heart knows the remedy for this ache.

क्या ही शिकार-फ़रेबी पर मग़रूर है वो सय्याद बच्चा,

त'एर उड़ते हवा में सारे अपनी उसारा जाने हैं।
The superciliousness of hunter's child is known to the prey,( beloved is projected as proud hunter's child and
that's why birds flew in the air knowing their limits.        lover may fell prey to his father if he not leave)

मेहर-ओ-वफ़ा-ओ-लुत्फ़-ओ-इनायत एक से वाकिफ़ इन मे नहीं,
और तो सब कुछ तन्ज़-ओ-कनाया रम्ज़-ओ-इशारा जाने है।
She is unaware of things like love,kindness,care,compassion,etc.
taunting,gesturing,coquettish ogling all else she knows.

क्या-क्या फ़ितने सर पर उसके लाता है माशूक़ अपना,
जिस बेदिल बेताब-ओ-तवाँ को इश्क का मारा जाने है।
In what ways does a beloved tempts or seduce,
is very well known to a strong lover's restless heart.

आशिक़ तो मुर्दा है हमेशा जी उठता है देखे उसे,
यार के आ जाने को यकायक उम्र दो बारा जाने है।
A lover is dead unless he sees his beloved,
he gets a new life as soon as she is visible to him.

रख़नों से दिवार-ए-चमन के मूहं को ले है छिपा यानी,
उन सुराखों के टुक रहने को सौ का नज़ारा जाने हैं।
Protecting her beautiful face by hiding behind means,
she knows that a glimpse of her beauty will attract hundreds.

तशना-ए-खूं है अपना कितना 'मीर' भी नादाँ तल्ख़ीकश,
दमदार आब-ए-तेग़ को उस के आब-ए-गवारा जाने है।
'Mir' is so foolish and rude to not to know her thirst for blood ( it complies to the lovers death)
otherwise,he knows how to present her sword water(blood) as flavored rich wine.(to kill himself to please her)
